Aged Care & NDIS Massage:
- Aged-care massage involves gentle and specialised techniques tailored to support the health and well-being of older Australians. This form of massage can help improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, promote relaxation, and enhance mobility, making daily activities more comfortable. Practitioners always ensure that treatments are safe, respectful, and adapted to individual needs, providing a caring touch that can also boost emotional well-being.
- NDIS Massage offers personalised massage therapy services for individuals with disabilities, delivered in the comfort of their own home or supported accommodation. These sessions are designed to accommodate a variety of physical, sensory, and emotional needs, ensuring treatments are accessible and inclusive. Qualified therapists work closely with participants and their support networks to develop tailored plans that can assist with pain management, improve flexibility, and encourage relaxation, supporting overall health and independence.
Massage:
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is a treatment-focused therapy. It is assessment-based and aims to address specific musculoskeletal problems, rather than just relaxation.
- Key allied health value:
- Often used as part of a rehabilitation or care plan, especially for stroke recovery, post-surgery stiffness, or age-related muscle tightness.
- How it works on the body:
- Targets tight, shortened, or injured muscles
- Improves joint mobility and posture
- Supports circulation and lymphatic flow
- Reduces pain caused by muscle imbalance or overuse
- Benefits for older adults:
- Helps manage chronic pain (neck, shoulders, lower back, hips)
- Reduces stiffness caused by arthritis or prolonged sitting
- Supports functional movement and daily activities
- Can assist circulation in people with reduced mobility
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage works on deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is slower, more focused, and more intense than relaxation massage.
How it works on the body:
- Breaks down chronic muscle tension and adhesions
- Improves blood flow to deep tissues
- Helps restore normal muscle length and function
Important clinical note: For elderly clients, deep tissue massage must be modified:
- Pressure is adjusted
- Areas with fragile skin, osteoporosis, or poor circulation are avoided
Benefits for older adults:
- Useful for long-standing muscle tightness or postural pain
- Can reduce pain from chronic conditions (used carefully)
- Improves range of motion when stiffness is deep-seated
Key allied health value:
- Best used selectively, based on assessment, not as a “one-size-fits-all” treatment.
Pregnancy Massage
Specially adapted massage for pregnant and postnatal clients, using safe positioning and supportive techniques. Treatment is tailored to each stage of pregnancy and recovery, focusing on comfort and gentle muscular relief.
Suitable for:
- Pregnancy-related muscle tension
- Back, hip, and shoulder discomfort
- Postnatal recovery support
- Stress and sleep difficulty
- Reduces muscle strain from postural changes
- Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage
- Relieves pressure in the lower back, hips, and legs
Focus areas:
- Lower back and hips
- Neck and shoulders
- Leg fatigue
- General relaxation
Positioning and pressure are carefully adjusted for safety and comfort.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is primarily a relaxation-based therapy, focusing on the nervous system rather than deep tissue correction.
Key allied health value:
Excellent for elderly clients who:
- Are medically fragile
- Have dementia or anxiety
- Cannot tolerate deep pressure
- Often used to support mental health and quality of life, not just physical symptoms.
How it works on the body:
- Uses long, flowing strokes
- Activates the parasympathetic (calming) nervous system
- Improves superficial circulation
Benefits for older adults:
- Reduces stress, anxiety, and sleep problems
- Gentle and safe for frail or sensitive clients
- Improves sense of wellbeing and body awareness
Sports Massage
Sports massage focuses on performance, recovery, and injury prevention, but principles can be adapted for older adults.
Key allied health value:
- When adapted, sports massage supports healthy ageing, especially for older adults who remain physically active.
How it works on the body:
- Improves muscle recovery
- Reduces delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
- Supports flexibility and circulation
Benefits for active older adults:
- Helps seniors who exercise, walk regularly, or attend rehab programs
- Reduces muscle fatigue and injury risk
- Supports continued independence and mobility
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a gentle, rhythmic treatment designed to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid in the body. This technique uses light, precise strokes to encourage fluid circulation and reduce feelings of heaviness or congestion.
Suitable for:
- Fluid retention or mild swelling
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Post-travel puffiness
- Clients seeking gentle detox-style body support
Note: Not suitable for certain medical conditions — screening is required before treatment.
Potential benefits:
- Supports healthy fluid movement
- May reduce mild swelling and puffiness
- Promotes relaxation
- Gentle and non-invasive

- Mental fatigue
- Sleep support
- Emotional relaxation
Experience focus:
- Sensory relaxation
- Nervous system calming
- Gentle muscular release
Only diluted, skin-safe oils are used. Allergy screening required.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage uses warmed stones placed and applied on the body to help muscles relax more deeply. Heat allows for broader, smoother tissue work with less pressure, making it ideal for clients who prefer warmth and comfort.
Suitable for:
- Deep muscle tightness
- Cold sensitivity
- Stress and fatigue
- Full-body relaxation sessions
Benefits may include:
- Deep relaxation
- Improved tissue softness
- Comforting warmth
- Reduced muscular guarding
Temperature is always checked and adjusted for safety.
Cupping Massage
Cupping Massage uses suction cups combined with massage techniques to create lift and movement in soft tissues. Modern massage cupping is controlled and adjustable, and may be integrated with remedial massage work.
Suitable for:
- Muscular tightness
- Sports recovery support
- Back and shoulder tension
- Clients who prefer decompression-style work
Treatment effects may include:
- Increased local circulation
- Tissue decompression
- Myofascial release feel
Temporary cup marks may occur and usually fade within days.

Acupuncture / Dry Needling
Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a long-established therapy from Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses very fine, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body. In aged care and NDIS settings, it is commonly used to help manage persistent pain, reduce muscle tension, and support comfort and mobility—especially when chronic conditions, reduced activity, or post-surgical changes affect day-to-day function.
By gently stimulating targeted points, acupuncture can influence the nervous system and local tissue response, which may assist with pain modulation, circulation, and relaxation. The aim is not only symptom relief, but also improved participation in daily activities—such as walking, transfers, sleep quality, and tolerance to exercise or rehabilitation programs—based on the individual’s goals and capacity.
All needles are single-use, pre-sterilised, and disposable, and treatment is delivered with careful screening and conservative technique to suit older adults and participants with complex medical histories.

Dry Needling:
Dry needling is a modern, evidence-informed technique used to target tight, sensitive muscle bands (often called trigger points) that can contribute to ongoing pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. In aged care and NDIS care plans, dry needling is often chosen when muscle guarding, postural strain, or long-standing tension is limiting comfort, balance, or functional movement.
Using fine, sterile needles, the therapist works on specific muscles to help reduce local sensitivity and release excessive muscle tone. This may lead to short-term pain relief, improved range of motion, and better movement quality—making it easier to participate in rehabilitation exercises, walking practice, or everyday tasks like dressing and reaching.
